NMHC Submits Comment Letter on Bonding Requirements

The National Modular Housing Council, acting in support of the Tennessee MHA and the modular industry, submitted a comment letter to the Tennessee Department of Housing regarding a proposed rule change to the modular building unit program, which among other things, would have raised the bond requirement for a modular manufacturer from $100,000 to $500,000.

In the letter, the NMHC argued that the proposed bond requirement is completely out of step with the requirements of surrounding states, and that the modular housing industry and the manufacturers undergo a rigorous quality inspection process to ensure code compliance. Raising the bond requirements would simply put an unjust burden on an integral part of the housing industry, at a time when the housing market and consumers need support.
